Personal Life

Macky 2 whose real name is Mark Mulaza Kaira was born on 10 October 1984 in Luanshya, Zambia. Music is rooted in the family as his brother Kondwani Kaira who goes by the name Chef 187 and his sister Towela Kaira are musicians.

Macky 2’s Schooling

Like his brother Kondwani Kaira, Macky 2 attended Kabundi High School in Chingola before he proceeded to Eden University on scholarship to study Business Leadership and Management.

Macky 2’s Career

Macky 2’s intention to pursue music was affirmed after he attended the Catholic Church in Ndola. He later left home for Lusaka where he published his first album “Ndimupondo”. The singles that carried this album were “I Am President” and “Number 1”.

That was the start of what has turned out to be a successful music career. In the same year, Macky 2 dropped another album “Legendary” which carries 10 tracks, “So Much More”, and “Mama Rebecca”. The “Legendary” went on to win Album of the Year.

In recent years, Macky 2 released “Ghetto President” (2018) with 19 tracks in which he collaborates with his brother Chef 187 on “Bring It Back” and Dopeg & Jorzi on “Mwenze Kuti”.

“Mrs Me” was released in 2020 with seven tracks.

In between his musical career, Macky 2 was one of the contestants of Big Brother Africa season nine. He finished third in the competition and got an opportunity to record with D’Banj but the deal did not happen because Macky 2 wasn’t happy with the contract.

That notwithstanding, Macky 2 has had collaborations with big stars like Zodwa Wabantu and Cassper Nyovest.

Macky 2’s Relationships

Macky 2 married his sweetheart Chello Haatinga in 2015 at a star-studded event. Macky 2 and Haatinga took their sweet time to get a child, something that sparked speculation over his ability to sire a child.

As fans tried to figure things out, Macky 2 unexpectedly introduced his daughter named Faith to the world. She was born in 2017. Macky 2 dedicated a song titled “All For You” to her.

Macky 2’s Controversies

On two occasions, Macky 2’s songs, “Permanent” and “Google The Hit” raised eyebrows as people opined that they sounded similar to Nigerian artist Davido’s songs “Aye” and “Sekele”.

Although Macky 2 only features in the song “Permanent” by T-Sean, he was faulted for not attributing parts of the song to Davido as is the case with “Google The Hit”.

We know that art is a form of expression but that phrase can at times be taken advantage of by artists. Case in point when Macky 2 released a song that acted out the events that led to the arrest of Zambian opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema.

Supporters of Hakainde expressed their dissatisfaction over the song in which he portrayed Hichilema as a hateful and destructive individual. No action was taken against Macky 2 and contrary to fears that the song damaged his reputation, Macky 2 is still one of Zambia’s biggest artists.

In another controversy, Macky 2 was linked to satanism after he published artwork of a pyramid with the eye of a dollar that’s commonly associated with Illuminati and freemasonry.

He refuted the claims and stated that he strongly believes in God. Plus, he maintained that he didn’t owe anyone an explanation of the decisions he makes with regard to his work.
