Slap Dee whose real name is William Musonda was born on 27 April 1987 in Luangwa, Zambia. His aunt took over the parental responsibility after his parents' and brother's death. As a result, he spent much of his childhood living in different areas due to the nature of his aunt’s work.
He schooled in Botswana and South Africa but travelled back to Zambia in his high school days when he started making music.
Slap Dee spent some of his time in school making music. He took part in musical battles from which his desire to pursue music full-time stemmed. After his studies, Slap Dee moved to Lusaka where he released his first song “Asembe Isebenza”, a title he also used for his debut album which he released in 2006.
Despite the underwhelming reception of his first album, Slap Dee launched a second titled “So Che” and this time, his efforts bore fruits. Slap Dee became a household name with the hits “Takwaba” and “Solola”.
He followed this with the release of more hit tunes like “Sunshila”, “Nizee” and worked with Sutu on “Disposable”. Slap Dee was on a roll and released another album “Black & White” which features fan favourites “Fo’Shizzy”, and “Chishinka”.
His fourth and subsequent albums were released under his own record label XYZ Entertainment with the most recent being "Mother Tongue". XYZ in full is Example yapa Zambia which translates to Example of Zambia. The record specialises in RnB and Hip Hop music.
For his efforts, Slap Dee has been recognised by the Zambian Music Awards as well as the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMMA).
In 2019, Slap Dee ranked 10th on CNN’s list of Africa’s Biggest Music Stars which also featured artists like Nigerians Burna Boy, Yemi Alade, Tiwa Savage, Mr Eazi and Wizkid, Angelique Kidjo from Benin, Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania, Sho Madjozi and Busiswa Gqulu from South Africa.
In 2017, Slap Dee represented Zambia at the Coke Studio Africa, a music collaboration show that brings artists from different regions together.
Away from his music, Slap Dee’s profile has earned him brand endorsement deals. He became the first artist to land a deal with mobile network company Itel and also partnered with KungFu energy drink.
Despite denying that he’s been married before, Slap Dee reportedly married Matakala Lubinda with who he bore a daughter named Nandi before they divorced in 2014.
Slap Dee’s next relationship with Wendy Lubona, a daughter of a wealthy businessman and Baby East but both relationships were short-lived.
Slap Dee and his baby mama Lubinda reunited again and have since welcomed two more children.
